I strongly believe in giving people second chances, even to ex-convicts. Some people have made bad choices that landed them to prison and most of them want to start a new chapter in their life and live like normal people. However, the stigma of being a convicted felon stays with them throughout the rest of their lives and prevents them from moving forward. But who would help these former prisoners start fresh and re-enter society but us?
I read that the city of Philadelphia is making a concerted effort to encourage hiring of ex-convicts and employers are being enticed with $10,000 annual municipal tax credit if they hire former prisoners and provide them tuition support or vocational training. This is a very noble deed and God bless the souls of these employers who are taking risks to help ex-prisoners be productive again and keep them from repeat offenses.
