I Went Home with Swollen Eyes

Finally I was able to watch 'Marley and Me' with my girlfriend Lea. Sometimes not setting a date works better for me. We've talked about watching the movie since before Christmas day and finally ten days later without any plans, we made it to the theater. I have a very soft spot for dogs having had a dog for years, so I thought I wont miss this for the world.

At the beginning I thought the story was very light but funny. I could relate to what Jennifer Aniston was going through as a first time mom, very overwhelmed with motherhood but minus the part of also caring for a dog who likes to chew on anything. Hb had to deal with that weaning stage by himself before we got married. I could relate to the life of having a dog like Marley from being a very playful young dog up to becoming an aging dog with serious medical condition. The other thing that I missed in real life was not seeing our dog being put to sleep. I just couldn't stand the ordeal of watching him go. But in this movie, I had to relive the pain all over again. I felt like I was there with hb in the vet's clinic petting Laddie for the last time, saying goodbye and struggling to let him go. I cried quietly in my seat I could feel pain in my chest. I could hear people around me sobbing as well. It was a very touchy, tear-jerker movie for dog lovers, there were no dry eyes in the theater.

I came home with a heavy heart, swollen eyes and red nose. I suddenly missed Laddie again, *deep sigh*.

I saw the movie and although I have never gone through that experience with my own dog yet, the movie was a quite a tear-jerker. Not something I look forward to when the time comes.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but I always like Jennifer Aniston.

Impromptu visits to the movies are my favourite kind!

@AVCR8TEUR - it is really heart wrenching to see a dog whose been a member of one's family go, but it's something you have to brace yourself to. I never thought I would cry the way I cried when Laddie went.

@Running mommy - I'm a fan of Jennifer Aniston myself, sorry to have spilled the outcome of the movie to you ;-)

I had a dog named piper, (I had made a post about him at triond.com) and she was the the faithful and loyal companion I had ever had when I lived alone before. I cried a lot and still cry when I remember her. Dogs are loyal friends. I have not watched the movie but now I would, Thanks for sharing.

I don't think I can watch this movie. I just recently (on 30th Dec) lost my beautiful Renie, who was such a sweetheart, my therapy dog and constant companion - if you want to weep again, you can read about her on my blog.

I do stay with them when they go, because I can't not, but I do understand how hard it is for some people.

I wonder if Marley and Me has already been shown here in Pinas. I hope I can watch it too. I also have a dog named Potpot, a shihtzu. Just like our baby in the house.

Btw, thanks for leaving comment on my "Blog Award". I think you deserve more than those awards, Mira!
